Product Description
Pulstar plugs are the first real breakthrough in spark plug technology in over 120 years. They look and fit like spark plugs but contain an integrated electrical device called a capacitor. The capacitor peaks the energy of the spark plug in much the same way that a camera flash intensifies light. Instead of just 50 watts of peak power typical of all other spark plugs, Pulstar plugs generate up to 1 million watts of ignition power. The resulting robust spark ignites fuel more efficiently liberating more torque from the engine. Independent testing has validated torque gains of up to 12 % with improvement in throttle response, and reduced CO2.

Pulstar Iridium Pulse Plugs are the first real breakthrough in spark plug technology in over 120 years. They look and fit like spark plugs, but contain an integrated electrical capacitor, which focuses the energy of the plug in much the same way that a camera flash intensifies light. The result is peak electrical energy delivered to the fuel mixture that is far beyond that typical of conventional spark plugs, allowing for more complete combustion that in turn produces not only better fuel efficiency, but also increased torque and horsepower.

Generate More Power Using Less Fuel
All gasoline engines require ignition of the fuel mixture compressed within them to generate the energy needed to power a vehicle. Historically, conventional spark plugs have provided this, but with both the needs of performance minded drivers and fuel prices on the rise, there must be an alternative. Today drivers can dispense with outdated spark plug technology and step into the modern era with Pulstar Pulse Plugs.

Pulstar Pulse Plugs may look similar to spark plugs on the outside, but inside the technological advances of Pulstar are evident. Pulstar pulse plugs feature a unique built-in capacitor-based circuit that captures energy normally wasted by spark plugs. This energy is released in an amazingly powerful and quick (two nanosecond) high-energy pulse, which generates a spark with 20,000 times greater energy than any spark plug. Because this energy is stored in the built-in capacitor of the pulse plug, rather than routed through the plug as with spark plugs, ignition is available at the exact moment needed, resulting in more efficient and cleaner combustion of the fuel mixture, as much as a 10% increase in cylinder pressure, improved fuel efficiency and a guaranteed increase in horsepower and torque.

Pulsed Power Technology
Pulsed power technology is the science of storing power for a relatively long period of time and then discharging the stored power in an instantaneous pulse of energy. Installing pulsed power technology in a performance auto part helps to increase horsepower (while being driven aggressively) and also helps to improve gas mileage during normal driving. A simple way to think about pulsed power technology is to think of Pulstar's Pulse Plugs being the flash on a camera, whereas spark plugs are more like a flashlight. A camera flash is exponentially brighter than a flashlight even though they both may use the same battery. The spark comparison image to the right demonstrates the size brightness of a spark plug vs. a pulse plug. Here it is easy to see how much more energy is accumulated and dispersed to be used by your engine, which results in improved ignition velocity.

Ignition velocity refers to the growth of the combustion flame front, the speed of which determines the amount of energy released from the fuel. The greater the amount of ignition energy, the larger the spark. The larger the spark, the more efficiently your engine can operate to produce horsepower or, inversely, better fuel economy.

Key Features:

Customer Reviews:
2 out of 5 stars Fundamentally flawed and very dangerous due to limited testing for certain vehicles.   August 17, 2010
Catoptric
I will not deny potential oversight in installing these from a consumer perspective, however I cannot deny the simple finding that tremendous quality control issues exist, and it appears that due to pressure from the financial backers of Pulstar, they may not be entirely honest in representing their product as a safe and reliable technology "THAT WILL NOT DAMAGE" the engine or ECM, or create overheating issues that cause the water/coolant tank to crack and disperse hot steam through splits in the tank, after driving no more than 15 minutes. (Powerful product. . .)

The ECM did not go out in my vehicle though I was noticing severe safety issues that could easily jeopardize the long-term functioning of the car, and that the 'Check Engine' light was one. Since I had swapped out my older Bosch platinum spark plugs that were still working well and installed 40k miles before, 7 years before, following full engine treatment using Seafoam (placed in gas tank as well as through the vacuum line of the master cylinder), I thought sure it was the Seafoam still in the engine, and/or gunk on the gas line, causing misfiring or throttling issues that were causing the whole car to shake violently. In fact it was immediately relieved by installing Bosch platinum+4 spark plugs, (I would have bought Fusion plugs available online if I wasn't deeply concerned about these being in my car,) that all of the issues went away and two trips later the computer cleared out the check engine light.

I threw away the packaging and didn't want to retrieve it from the trashcan to return it through Amazon, and thought about selling them very cheap to someone, with the warning that if they suspect them to be an unreliable product, they should immediately remove it from their car. Initially I was thinking these spark plugs are very good and that the problem would go away, and any potential incompatibility with my vehicle was negligible. Though problems such as this might creep up after several thousand miles with regular plugs, it didn't with these and the tank of gas wasn't even 1/4ths used up. The claim that a larger spark might make the car more efficient is in theory true if the comparison spark plug is not particularly reliable for igniting fuel, though ultimately not so if real-world reliability is in question. Lots of doubts exist about these, and you won't be saving money long term if fuel is your only concern. Also if you are prone to driving and accelerating at quicker speeds, you won't be saving gas with these spark plugs.

Had I looked a little closer and had I not bought into the enthusiastic gullibility created from reading Popular Mechanics, and had I actually typed Pulstar in the search of Automotive, I would have discovered the very large failure rate of the spark plugs and potentially costly repair some owners are going through. The problem is that Pulstar might be getting away with engine damage because it may not be clear how much liability they should be faced with.

Just consider the buyer of this technology to be the very same that might buy a flux capacitor if offered one.
